Camp Rock is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) youth summer camp in Baltimore, Maryland. Summer camp experiences are important for healthy child development. According to Dr. Barry Garst, Director of Research at the American Camp Association, "Camp improves the lives of children and families, makes children healthy, and enables children to grow to be caring, contributing, successful members of society."
Summer camps help children develop positive identities, friendships, adventure, and exploration. Camp enables children to develop social skills that help them make new friends. Camp also provides children with the opportunity to grow more independent, develop leadership qualities, and become more adventurous and willing to try new things.
In addition to offering recreational activities and programs at Camp Rock, we also offer academic enrichment for all campers. When camps have an intentional focus on academic skills, there can be important impacts on summer learning. Children are able to learn throughout the summer, which drastically reduces summer learning loss.
Camp Rock is a faith-based day camp. Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." We are grateful to help the next generation build fun memories, develop their skills, talents, and cultivate their interests.
Today, fewer children are receiving nature-based experiences and are often plugged into electrical devices for an average 5½ hours a day (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2005). Camp Rock provides the opportunity for physical activity and healthy choices (foods, activity, rest), while offering children a chance to be themselves.
Many children are unable to attend summer camp for economic reasons. Through the generosity of camp scholarships, charitable foundations, and local donors, children from families experiencing economic hardship are able to experience summer camp.
